Friendships

Hi Y'all, hope for those of you that do celebrate Thanksgiving, you had a wonderful time and enjoyed every moment shared with friends and family and for those that don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope your day was a day filled with moments worth remembering.  As for me, it couldn't have been any more wonderful! Even with the extra 4 lbs. that followed me home I still enjoyed the many memories we created as we gave thanks for both family and friends. I love this time of year..so much to be grateful and thankful for.

The cards I am going to share with you, are cards I made with a few special friends in mind.  These are the friends that I have called on in the early am or middle of the night without fear of reprimand.  Friends that I know have a true heart and greater understanding of what it takes to be a friend (thoughtfulness, caring, willing to make those scrafices, knows when to express sympathy and empathy) through all the ups and downs of a relationship. I can't be thankful enough for this kind of friend which are few and very seldom encountered. So this time its all about the "Friendships."

Both of these cards were created using the same DCWV paper stack.  I only had the 12 x 12 so I strategically cut the paper to the appropriate size for my card.

Both cards are 5 x 7 and were based on a sketch from Becky Fleck's "Scrapbook Page Maps" that I purchased a while back when Borders went out of business where I live.

The flourishes are cut from Marianne "Fanciful Flourish" die and ribbon and buttons are all from Recollections.

I inked the edges with both Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo distress inks.

I used the same paper to finish off the cards on the inside.  And the last thing was to ensure a space was available for a personal message.

The DP is felt and very soft to the touch which made the card very personal. I like the way they both turned out, although I like the inside of the first one best and the front of the second one best.  Figure that one out if you can. (smiles)

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Challenges 4 Everybody - Challenge# 8 Anything Goes ( Dec 7th)

The Corrosive Challenge - #163 Anything Goes (Dec 6th)

Joanna Sheen Challenge - Anything Goes Excluding Christmas (Dec 6th)

Craft Punked - Week 47 Best Friends

Emergency Crafters - Anything Goes

Stamp 'n' Doodle - Anything Goes

Sassy Studio - Dare to be Sassy "Felt or Fabric"

The second card follows the same basic layout with a few minor changes in the layer size and placement.  I also added some ribbon which later decided I didn't care for but couldn't remove without destroying the card so the bow remains.

The sentiment is a stamp I picked up at the Scrapbook convention and I have no clue what company it is from.

I finished the inside using the same DP and since the paper was a light tan I didn't think I needed to add anything for a personal message.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Pile It On -  #48 Anything But A Christmas Card (Dec 1st)

That Craft Place - No Squares Allowed

Totally Gorjuss - #159 Don't Be Square

Well that's all I have for today.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you back here again real soon.  Your comments are always welcomed.

Fancy Fold Technique

Hey Guys, has anyone ever searched on Youtube and discovered that for one technique there are over 300 different ways to get to the same place and the key is choosing which one works for you.  Well I am a youtube junkie, a lifelong learner and I think its great that folks are willing to share their talent but there are those that seem to think that showing what they have created is a tutorial....that bugs me to death.

I would suggest that if you use the word tutorial in your video-clip title then one would expect to receive instructions (verbal or written) and not just you pointing or chatting about your creation and what you did (in no particular order).  I dare to say that although your project may be absolutely lovely and ideas can be drawn from it, that does not constitute it as a tutorial!

I wanted to find a tutorial on how to create a basic center step card, so that's what I searched on "Center Step Card Tutorial" and several videos showed up.  Being logical I only clicked on titles that had the word tutorial...well I must have clicked on at least 8 of them suckers to discover they were not tutorials ... OMG...why call it a tutorial!  I was getting very frustrated when finally a lady with a British accent began to speak instructions while showing them on the screen.

Thanks be to the heavens...and then at the end of the tutorial, she added a link for printing the the instructions.  I could now try my first "Center Step Card" and here it is with decorations and everything.

Not real sure how this was going to turn out I decided to use an old paper pack I had from K&C combined with Recollections CS Gray as my base color. I added a few pearls and a little lacy ribbon to finish it off.  My lady in the hat was perfect for a vintage shabby chic reflection.

I want to enter this card in the challenge:

Amusing Challenges - Special Folds (26 Nov)

The Squirrel and The Fox - Challenge #31 Anything Goes (26 Nov)

Dream Valley - Challenge #45 Anything Goes (22 Nov)

Another technique I had been thinking about was the "Flip Card."  It took me about 30 minutes to find a tutorial that had all the information I need such as what size to cut the paper and so forth but it worth the search because I found a "tutorial" that gave clear very step-by-step instructions.  The lady spoke a little slower than I would have liked but I think she did it perfect.  At least my card turned out rather nicely..although there are some changes I would make to it the next time I try this technique which might just be tomorrow.  Here's the card.

Here is my creation and believe it or not it actually flips correctly..an interactive card that is just too cool!  Additionally with this fancy fold I learned a new technique using my impressabilities.  If you look close you can see the circles imprinted on the inside, well I created that with an impressability!  A really cool technique.

Next is the card completely open and can you see how the front flips and becomes the left panel of the open card.  OMG...this is just to much excitement for me to handle.

You can also see the circles on the right side that I learned how to create.  This lady gave you three tutorials in one video and that was totally awesome.  She also showed you how to make your own flowers using a die from "Dynamics"

I used my Spellbinder's dies to create the beaded circle and the border.  I added the pearls, ferns (MS) and the flowers to finish this "Flip Card"....yeah me!

Well my RAK finally reached it's destination and from what I heard she loved it!  That made an otherwise long day a good day overall.  My other co-workers told me I could not have chosen a more deserving person, and I was rather pleased with myself.  So if you get a chance to contribute to a RAK, go for it and bring a smile to someone's heart.

Nothing unusual to share with you and for me that alone is a miracle.  My life is always full of something strange but thats what makes life living...think on that for a minute.  Anyway I will not disappoint you, I do have another card to share with you, but before I do I would like to remind you once again that there is still time to create a scrapbook page and join my challenge...currently there is only one entry so the odds of winning are great! A gift card to "Make it Crafty" is up for grabs.

Oh well, moving right along.  My card is indeed a pieced together "scrap card" and I'll tell you why as I go along.

Above is the front of my card.  I noticed I had small sheets of black paper laying around but when measuring them they wouldn't work as a first layer therefore I decided I would use them as smaller mats perhaps, but did you know that all black paper is NOT compatible...go figure that one out.  Now when I think about it no color holds true across all spectrums.  It depends on the parent from which it was created.  Kinda like kids, huh?

Anyway I ran across a challenge (actually two of them) that said piece it together, or use scraps, and put something broken back together.  Well I thought the paper had broken from its parent 12x12 sheet and was now an odd piece so I could use that.

I got the idea to use little squares from a mosaic scrapbook layout I had created so I began to punch any black scrap of paper I could find starting with the smallest of pieces.  I ended up with way more than I needed and then I thought to do the same with my leftover white, red and green.  All scraps from making Christmas cards all week.

Here is a side view so you can get a glimpse of the inside. I used the negative side of one of the black scraps I had punched to decorate the inside.

This worked because the background was white and I was able to layer a piece of black on the card base.  Then lastly I added a white oval shaped piece of paper for a personal message.  This allowed me to carry the theme from the front of the card onto the inside. Doing this seemed to work well with this card.

I do tend to give a big yipee to myself when things go well on the first attempt.  Doesn't happen often so I savor every moment when it does (heh he).

I liked how this card turned out and I'm almost finished creating a red and black one with the other scraps I have.  This card is a 5x7 turned horizontal but the next one I hope to make it so it can stand vertically.

I want to enter this card in the following challenges:

Lady Anne's - Anything Goes Challenge

Word Art Wednesday - #54 Anything Goes

Try It On Tuesday - Memories

Tammy's Scrapin Corner - #36 Anything Goes

Stampin Sisters in Christ - #165 Put it Back Together

Shelley's Images - Oh Scrap

Perfect Sentiment - #56 Piece it Together

Penny's Paper Crafty - #102 Anything Goes

Lady Anne's Sentiment Friday - Anything Goes

Well thats all for today...now I am going to go and tackle a tri-shutter card. My first go at it failed and my second try turned out pretty good but now for the real deal.  Keeping my fingers crossed...if it goes well I will share but if not then....well you'll figure it out.

Cool Chili Day

Hello All. Today it was rather cool and every now and then it would mist a little rain, the perfect weather for crafting and a bit of chili.  Well I decided to try my hand at making chili..and yep this would be my first time with chilli. I found a recipe online for a crock pot (my favorite kitchen appliance) and off I went to get the ingredients.

While I was out I decided to just grocery shop and do a little bit more running around. It was such a beautiful day, at least to me it was.  Anyway I got the chili in the crock pot and cooking (has to cook for 4 hours). The only thing left to do was to ...you know...play in my craftroom/studio.

Jackson's Digital Expression will be hosting a sketch challenge and here is my take on the sketch.

Here is the sketch we are using for the challenge.  The sketch was designed by Rebecca Fleck and if you haven't seen her book of sketches you are missing a lot of cool ideas for not only scrapbook layouts but cards as well.

Here is my interpretation of the sketch.
CS: Recollections
DP: My Mind's Eye
Image: Bugaboo Stamps
EK Success Pumpkin Border Punch
K&C: Fall Clear Stickers
Sentiment: Clear Stamps

The inside I simply used leftover paper from the front of the card. My image was colored using Copic Markers.

I want to enter this card in the following challenge:

Card Makin Mamas - Thanksgiving/Thanks

Challenges 4 Everybody - #7 Anything Goes

Perfect Sentiments - #55 CAS/Fall Thanksgiving

This next card is one I worked on to give to my neighbor. Every time he cuts his yard if he notices that mine hasn't been cut he will just keep cutting right across to my yard.  Yeah, I end up with a well groomed front yard and a small jungle in the back.  That only happens when I forget to call for service but I think I need to say thanks.  He likes birds and has two or three as his pet so this card should go over very well.

I used left over CS and DP to create this card.  You can tell that I really like the distress inks because I used a lot on this card.  The goal was to keep it from looking to feminine since it is going to a guy.

I didn't decorate the inside much. I just added a space for a message and punched a border to run across the top of both panels.
I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Aud Sentiments - Challenge #67 Thanks

One Stitch At A Time - Challenge #139 With Thanks

Well tomorrow is a work day, and the chili should be just about ready so I think now would be a good time to go start the cornbread and maybe I'll cook up a pot of rice to go along with it. Vegetables..ummm...well brocoli and carrots it is, mainly because there isn't to many vegetables in my freezer that I can steam up in less than 60 minutes.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you visit often.

Random Act of Kindness (RAK)

Looking for this month's challenge?
Click the Current Challenge Tab located above
or to jump straight to the current challenge click here.

A random act of kindness can bring a smile to someone's face and make a total stranger want to meet you or say thank you.  This simple act can do so many things to make a better day for someone...I know because when I got my first RAK I smiled like a kid with a new toy, and then I wondered who and why, and then I smiled just a bit more.

Today I am performing a RAK for one my co-workers that works out of our office located in Orlando Florida.  Although we have spoke over the phone several times and been on projects together we have never met or exchanged any words of personal meaning, so it didn't surprise me that she had gotten married and I was not in the know (very few were).

Well I decided to surprise her with a card and a framed layout of her and her groom.  I managed to get a photo of the bride and groom together from another co-worker, for the layout and I found the frame on sale at Hobby Lobby.  It is going to be hand-delivered to her on Monday, and I can't wait to hear about her reaction.  Anyway you tell me if you think she will enjoy the gifts.

I created the card using Recollections standard CS an DP. I used Martha Stewart to punch out my border and then Spellbinders to create the focal point.

I found some gold letters in my stash along with some peel and stick stencils that seemed to work well with what I was trying to create.  I think the wedding colors were gold and white...going by the picture, but there may have been a touch of peach somewhere in there as well.

A simple congratulations for the sentiment and I think the card was done.  I made a couple of mistakes but didn't have time to correct completely so I did my best to hide the mistakes.  Hope she doesn't see them.

On the inside I used the same patterned paper as on the front and then typed up the words I wanted to say to her.

Not knowing her that well I tried to say those things we wish for any couple getting married and committing themselves to live as one.  And then I signed my name.

I am entering this card in Lady Anne's -  Anything Goes Challenge and Anything Goes Challenge Blog - "Anything Goes Challenge".

The next thing I did was find someone to give me a copy of her wedding photos or at least two: one with her and the groom and then one of the wedding party.  I decided though that I didn't want to do a two page layout but one layout and then frame it for her to hang in her office.

I used Webster's trim, Pink Paislee DP, Martha Stewart punches, Recollections Pearls, Prima floral spread, Tim Holtz lamp post die, and stickers to create the page.  Although it was a last minute decision I'm okay with it.

I am entering this layout in "A Gem Of A Challenge" - #59 Ribbon and Lace

Below is a close-up of the bride and groom and one of the glass floral arrangement.   What are your thoughts?  BTW if you enter my "Scrap A Page" challenge your chances of winning are really high since no one has entered.  It appears there aren't any scrappers left in our crafting world or I don't have any scrappers that are part of my blogging challenge family.

As always "find beauty in all things and then go create your own."
Don't forget your comments are always welcomed and appreciated even more!

A Stinky Mess!

Looking for this month's challenge?
Click the Current Challenge Tab located above
or to jump straight to the current challenge click here.

Boy I have a story to tell, but hold your nose because it is indeed a stinky one! The roofers came to replace my roof and the noise from walking on the roof had my "Gizzi" (my 4-legged friend) all up in the air and she was barking and growling at the top of her voice. This was totally bugging me with no end in sight.  After the roofers were finished and I heard them drive off, I decided Gizzi deserved a break outside (not a good idea if you're not ready).  I should have put the leash on her before I opened the door (lesson learned about an in-house dog) they will make a break for it at the first chance of freedom.

Anyway in her haste to get out she slipped or tripped at the driveway corner (not sure which) and fell into something that manage to get all in her hair.  It looked like mud but my grand-daughter discovered rather quickly that mud it was not.  There is no mud on mother earth that could have an odor such as the one coming from my precious Gizzi (Some people are not considerate with their pet's poop).  The scene going on was rather funny (although very smelly) because my grand-daughter, being a total uncontrolled diva was petrified that she had touched this smelly stuff and proceeded to try and chase Gizzi into the backyard and out of the house.  I was laughing so hard and Gizzi thought she was playing so she kept running and jumping around refusing to obey any commands.  My poor Ari "grand-daughter" was going to die if I didn't get Gizzi clean fast.

I finally stepped in and got her outside where I rinsed her with the water hose and then to the tub I went with doggie, shampoo and brush in hand. Let me tell you, the smell was so fresh and strong I thought for sure I was going to choke to death.  Eventually, I got her all washed up and played shadow boxing with her as I attempted to blow-dry this furry mess.  Once that was done we sprayed the house with lysol and everything else we could find...but that smell just kept lingering.  Had to sleep the night with Gizzi gated outside of our bedrooms.  She was so sad...but still had that smell.

The next day (today) realizing that getting rid of that smell was beyond my ability, I called my nearest groomer and made an appointment to get the professionals in on the case.  The scene was hilarious and for the first time ever my grand-daughter was actually happy to be on her way to school and away from my precious Gizzi.  This is my life...full of ups and downs...joy and laughter...and everything in-between.  Her appointment is later today so I thought this was a perfect time to journal my story.

I can't post without sharing something, so in keeping with that thought, here are a couple of holiday cards that I hope you will enjoy.

Both cards were actually created by my grand-daughter.  She informed me that she thought I needed to use some of my scrapbook embellishments on my cards since I do more cardmaking these days.  I told her to have at it and show me what she would do.  She agreed only if I permitted her to take them to school to sale for a fundraiser.  Of course I said yes.  These are only two of the 6 that she has created so far. I think her goal is to create 10 cards and sale them for the choir's field trip.

I think she did well and it does my heart good to know she is going to sale them, not for herself but for her school.  She is showing this "Mema" that she may be a little diva, but she has a really big heart and love for her school (by the way she carries a 4.0 GPA and is in all accelerated classes).  I couldn't ask for anything more of her.

Election Day

Today is election day and I decided that today I would not turn on the television unless it was to watch an uninterrupted movie on HBO or Showtime. I am so tired of all the political advertisements I thought this would be a good time to give up television. I am truly ready for it to be over regardless to whom my President might be. It all comes with the joy of democracy in America!

Anyway by making this decision I found myself with extra time and a lot of quiet time. I did not know that my tele' was such a distractor.  Well I used this extra time to play with paper and somewhat organize my studio. During this organization I have proven to myself that I need more space because I seem to constantly collect things, although I have not been turned in to that TV show called "Hoarders Buried Alive" (smiles).

Here is a card I created after following a tutorial I thought was rather interesting.

I saw this technique on Youtube University and decided to try it out. It turned out better than I thought it would but of course there were lessons learned.

The poinsetta was stamped and embossed in gold.

Then using a Versamark Pen I filled in the leaves before I embossed them using green embossing powder.

Lesson Learned: Color small parts at a time so the pen doesn't dry to fast.

You repeat this process with the floral pieces and you end up with a beautifully embossed poinsetta.

Lastly you can use a pen to highlight or outline the image if you accidently emboss over the lines.

Lesson Learned: Stamp and emboss the outline in black to make it easier to see.

As usual I have started to use my scraps to spruce up the inside of my cards. I am finding that the recepients are enjoying seeing the insides as much as the outside. BTW: The DP was My Mind's Eye.

Brighter Days

Hello My Friends.  Today I have a rather quick post for you and a bit of exciting news..at least for me it's exciting.  Today I got myself a white Samsung Galaxy III and I am truly loving it.  Its small, lightweight and just plain sexy (if a phone can be called sexy) and I purchased a cute cover to go along with it. Very professional looking and sleek as well.  So not much crafting was done today..too busy playing with my new phone, but I did manage to get two cards finished today that I had been playing with off and on for the past couple of days so I'll share those with you.

Before I do, I would like to ask you to encourage your scrapbooking friends to visit my blog and perhaps enter my challenge.  So far I have cardmakers sharing their works with us but not the scrappers...I know there are talented scrappers out there and I would love to see their work, so please spread the word to all your friends.

Okay so much for favors.  Moving on to my cards.  Sorry folks but I don't have a photo of the inside of the first card but I used the same paper and pretty much the same layout on both panels of the inside.

Card Supplies:
DP: Mariposa

CS: Recollections
Spellbinders: Classic Circle and Small Scalloped Circle
Ranger Archival Ink
Martha Stewart: Monarch Butterfly
EK Success: Scalloped Border

I am entering this card in the following challenge:

Challenges 4 Everybody - Challenge #6 Anything Goes

One Crazy Stamper - Anything Goes

Here is a second card that took a couple of days to finish.  I was just too excited about getting a new phone.  Don't misunderstand I loved my Epic and there was nothing wrong with it, but getting a new phone as a gift does make one change their viewpoint just a bit.  Well on to my second card, which is actually a Halloween card.

 Card Supplies:
DP: Authentique
K&C: 3-D embellishment
Spellbinders: Nestabilities
Embossing folder
Distress Inks

As you can see I used the same paper to decorate the inside and leave room for a personal message.

I get a kick from designing the inside and I just recently began to add my signature block on the back of my cards.

I am entering this card in the following challenge.

Allow me to introduce you to my 4-legged baby and companion.  We call her Gizzi and she is a rescue dog that I was lucky enough to get over 8 years ago, and today she rules this house.  She is a "Yorkie" "Poodle" mix and at one time had the long silky hair like yorkies but this time I asked my groomer to give her a Schanuser cut and I do believe I like it!  Its a lot easier to brush and maintain.

This little creature is my baby and as I craft she is right beside me helping me decide on my colors and paper. (he he he)  Just thought I would share her with everyone, virtually anyway.  I just love this great little ball of energy and fur!

This is one style of Christmas card that I am creating to share with family and co-workers. For some reason I tend to like creating white-on-white cards during the holiday season. I think I created 4 white-on-white already and I am trying my best to stop. Oh well it is what it is.
