Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Month

Hello Everyone!  As you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and to honor those who have survived and who struggled with this disease I am asking for your participation in an upcoming challenge at Jackson's Digital Expressions of whom I am a DT member.

Our upcoming challenge begins on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 and we want your help! The owners and co-owners of Jackson's Digital Expressions have pledged to donate $.25 to Breast Cancer Research for every entry in the challenge this week. We are not looking for money from you, just participation. Your participation alone will help in the battle against this enemy of our bodies.

Additionally, we are asking you to please post a notice on your blog, and encourage your crafty friends to join in. We would like for you to use Pink or a BCA theme on your card entry, but the real truth is we just want as many entries as we can get. With the current pledges, we stand at $1.50 per entry so please join in our pledge to rid ourselves of Breast Cancer forever by supporting the research.

Once you enter the JDE challenge come back and enter any of Mema's Crafts October challenges because Mema is pledging $10.00 for every 40 entries (cumulative) she gets in her challenges.  Breast Cancer is not prejudice and this disease affects women every year, but together we have the power to fight this disease so that our children will not have to face or fear this dangerous disease.

I pray I can count on your participation!  I am entering in this card in Dawn's Crafting Think Pink Challenge.

As always thanks for stopping by and remember

Autumn Joy!

Hello my fellow crafters.  I am thrilled today, because Autumn has finally arrived and I am so ready for it (all but raking leaves).  I just wish someone would tell Summer that is it okay to leave and go take a nap, and to take the 90 degree temperatures with him.  But I must say there was a cool breeze that kept the temperature very tolerable.

Last night was full of drama as my BFF lost her entire blog site due to technical difficulties.  Well she was a little trooper although frustrations and tempers were running high, she did what anyone else would do....get a cool refreshing drink until the frustrations float away and then decide to do it better whatever it was.  So if you were a follower of "Scrapbookstampinista" she will be back soon, so please go back and visit her new blog once she has it up and running again.

A bit of exciting news is that the "Case It" challenge I entered was a success and I won!!!!  YEAH!!!  YIPEE!!!  I can't wait to get those wonderful stamps I won.  Visit FOSTV and check out there challenges.

I did manage to create a few cards this week and I will share them with you but first let me tell you that next month will be my 1 year challenge blog anniversary and I want to have fun all month long.  We have three sponsors, "Robert's Digital Expressions", "Bugaboo Digital Stamps", and "Saturated Canary".  There will be several challenges going on and I hope you will participate in all three challenges for a chance to win fabulous prizes.  Here's a hint for you.  The themes go a little something like this "Scene It With Nature", "Animals Gone Wild" and "Those Bloomin Flowers".

There you've got a heads up for next month.  Next month I will announce my top follower and winning prize.  So you see there is going to be a lot going on in October, and I hope you will find time to join the fun.

Now on to my creations....

This CAS card I actually created for a challenge if I am not too late. If I am it won't be the first time. When it comes to challenges I always seem to be a day late and a penny short. The challenge over at FOSTV is a bingo challenge and I decided on "Lace, Ribbon and Buttons" as my three bingo items.

I am entering this card in the challenge:
Friends of SpeedyTV Challenge 38 09/17/12
Wish me Luck and then join in.

This card I made for a challenge over at Jackson's Digital Expressions.  I used an "Eureka" image, and selected my color combination with care only to find out that the theme was to create a card supporting Breast Cancer.

Well this one just didn't cut the mustard, nor was it pink in any way (lol) so I just kept it and decided to try my hand at coloring using Promarkers.  Not my best work but I'll keep practicing.  And no I didn't make my Breast Cancer card in time to enter the challenge, but the card is cute.

I tried to take the theme from the front of the card over to the inside, and now I think I like the inside better than the front.  Ummm....how did that happen.

A young lady by the name of Hannah inspired the creation of this card.  I was introduced to these images called Magnolias and they are centered around the activities of two kids, "Tilda" and "Edwin".

These children are real and live in Norway (I think) and either their mother or grandmother captures their activities as a sketch and then transfers the design to a stamp.

The inside of the card holds a birthday verse that was computer generated because a co-worker needed a birthday card for her sister and I thought this particular card was perfect.

My BFF absolutely adored these darling images and probably has them all by now. She bugged me until finally I broke down and bought a couple of each kid. I now have accummulated over 150 of these images to include the accessories. Yes they have all the accessories such as as cars, kites, pets, bikes, trees, lakes, steps, skates and whatever else you can think of.

I have since then gotten over my "maggie" addiction and moved on to bigger and better addictions.  I'll share some of my many addictions in a later post because this one has gotten to long.  Well my friends I am now ready to start another project so I must say goodnite, but I will be back at the end of the week to announce our final winner for this month's challenge and to remind you of the activities going on next month.  Wow!  I am so excited.

As always thanks for stopping by and remember

We Have A Winner

Today has been a lovely day.  One of my grand-daughters and I spent the day being pampered at the SPA with a pedicure, manicure, facial, massage and a little waxing. Then after a very relaxing afternoon we settled in at our favorite Chinese restaurant for a little dinner.  Now we're home and I am so ready to call it a night and its only 7:00  in the evening.  Being pampered can wear you out.  But before I call it a night I must announce the winner of our first September challenge random draw, and I think I'll go ahead and share a card with everyone.
I was attempting to organize my card files you know, put cards according to theme (birthday, Christmas, winter, etc.) and I found this card.  I'm not sure, but I don't think I've shared this one nor have I entered it in any challenge, but if I have then please forgive my oversight.

Just another sign that I need to get organized.  Seems to me I need to somehow organize what I've already organized....lol....life is such fun.  Anyway forgive me for not having any information for you about this card.  All I can remember is that I paper-pieced the coffee cup.  I recognize the paper but at the moment the title is eluding me.

Okay enough with the card let me keep going with the more important stuff.  Next month someone is going to win a collection of goodies such as:  Copic Mini Airbrush System, Basic Grey "Little Black Dress" Card Kit, Basic Grey "Nordic" Card Kit, E-certificate to a Selected Scrapbook Online Store, and an E-certificate to a Selected Digital Image Online Store just to name a few things in this goody bag.  Can't give away all the secrets but October is going to be lots of fun so make sure you check back with us...the winner could be you.

Now for what you've wanted to hear the first winner selected today September 15th for a gift certificated from Mo Manning is ......(drum roll please)..........

Well that's a wrap for this post.  Our next winner for September will be drawn on the 30th  and I will also announce the grab bag winners so check back often because you could be a winner.

Another Challenge

Hello my fellow crafters and friends.  This post is going to be rather quick because I am trying to enter my card in a challenge and I think I am finishing just under the wire.  This card took me two days and five start overs with three mistakes along the way.  I was trying a new technique which one should never do if you're planning to enter a challenge.  Well after everything was said and done it turned out okay and I think it qualifies for the challenge on Mark's Finest Papers and Stamps.  Perhaps I can find a few other challenges to enter it in.  After all that work I surely hope so but if not I'll survive that as well (LOL) (smiles).

The challenge is to use red and white as your main colors in your project so here is mine.

My DP is MME but I can't remember which collection now that I've cleaned up everything.

I used Spellbinders Decorative Oval and the standard oval to create my center focal point.

The ribbon is from Stampin Up and no I haven't yet learned how to tie a proper bow using double-sided ribbon...but its not that bad (to me anyway).

My border is one of Martha Stewart's punch around the page collection which I inked with Tim Holtz distress Ink.  The sentiment is computer generated.

As always I try to use all my scraps for something.  It's easier with page layouts but so far I've been successful using scraps to piece together the inside for the card.

I used the smaller Decorative Oval to create space for a personal message and finished the inside with the same MME paper.

I am entering this card in the following:

Case It Challenge

I am creating this card for a rather unique kind of challenge.  This challenge is a "CASE" challenge.  Yep! You read it right.  The challenge is find a card we like and try to re-create it to the best of our ability.  You can make changes such as paper, stamp and etc. but the goal is to mimic what you see so I decided to enter this challenge.  There are several artist out there that design cards that make me say "how'd she do that" and there are some that I get so frutrated trying to figure it out I will simply send an email and beg for guidance or instructions...don't believe me just ask Marianne from Norway heh heh..well moving right along.

The card I chose to case was created and designed by Lisa Somerville and her blog name is "Splendiferous Creations" which you can visit by clicking here.  She also has a gallery on SplitCoast Stampers if you want to see more.  First I will show you my card and then the original card.

First let me introduce my cased creation. Here are the items I used to create it.

DP: Prima Printerey
Stamp: Hero Arts

Pearls/bling: Recollections

Flowers: Wild Orchid

Sentiment: Computer Generated

Of course all my scraps are used to decorate the inside and this one was no different, although it wasn't part of the challenge...how could it be, right?

Anyway I used a collage of scraps and came up with this.  I almost forgot to add a space for a personal message but I remembered and added it to the left side instead of the right.

Now, here is the actual card as designed by the creator.  Go ahead and compare my creation to Lisa's design.

There are suttle differences but of course we can't be perfect regardless to how hard we may try.

For her card she used the following items:

Pearls: Zva's elegant Ice and Fire Jet Crystals

Flowers: Mini Ginger and Cream Roses

DP: Prima paper as well.

Blog Candy Celebration

Don't Forget: Sign In To Be Counted For The Top Follower Prize  (to be awarded soon)

YIPPEeeeeeee!  I've reached my goal of 300 followers and to celebrate I am going to give away some blog candy...yeahhhhh.

I created my first blog post in May of 2011, which means I've been blogging just over a year. My first challenge was posted in October 2011.  I entered blogging out of curiosity...blogging...what was the hype all about and I discovered that the hype was about the people you meet, the stories they tell of themselves and the sharing of their talent.

At the beginning of the year I set a challenge to recruit 500 followers by October to celebrate my challenge anniversary and if I did not reach 500 I would close shop at the end of 2012.  Little did I know, that this would be so rewarding for me, so using my very own perrogative, I decided that 500 was to aggressive and dropped it to 300, praying that my challenges would be enticing and here I am at my goal.   Without you, my lovely followers I would not have reached my goal and to all of you I send the biggest Texan style thanks.

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH

To win this blog candy do the following three things:
1.  Be a follower (sorry but I want to be fair to my faithful followers)
2.  Enter your name using Mr Linky (at the end of this post)
3.  Leave a comment

You can comment on my post, my cards, tutorials, the blog candy or anything you desire.  You can even leave a quote if you desire (but beware I may use it).  Thats all you have to do.

So now on to the more important things.  What is up for grabs you ask? ...well ....
********************************************************
!!!Yes I've decided to award 2 grab bags!!!!!

1.  The Pink Paislee "Prairie Hill" Collection.  This collection is about having fun in the sun and the outdoors. It comes with a 24 single-sided 6x6 paper pad, accolade stickers, 1 pack of 3-D chipboard pieces, a set of tags and a set of clear stamps.  I think the winner of this grab bag will smile.

2Basic Grey "Wander" Collection.  This is a lighthearted collection full of colors like adventurous reds, sunny yellows, road sign greens, and jet white with cityscapes, car convoys and a myriad of maps.   It includes a 36 sheet single-sided 6x6 paper pad, 24 glazed brads, pop layered stickers, canvas tags, fabric flowers, chipboard alpha stickers and shapes, and 6 decorative clips.  This collection will offer a journey to the winner without the cost of travel.

*********************************************************************
Now that I've got that covered let me continue with another water-colored card using the distress markers.
On my other post the technique I used was adding the water from a Zig water brush where you had some control of the flow of water but it was continous and the brush would at times become to wet. I also had to use the heat gun several times on the first technique.

On this card I put a few drops of water on my craft sheet and dipped a regular 02 size brush in the droplet which meant the brush was never soaked.

Additionally, I used cold pressed 140 pound water-color paper for this card. The textured paper seemed to absorb the water a lot more slowly than the smooth 90 lb paper giving me time to add more color where need and I could spread it more getting lighter shades.

At the moment I'm not sure which way I like best but let me warn you that using a paper weight heavier than 120 makes it really hard to cut with scissors as I discovered when cutting how this bird.

This is all I have for this post and I hope it grabbed your interest.  So in closing remember we will have two events going on for the month of September.  My standard monthly challenge which is being sponsored by Mo Manning Digital Pencil which I will be posting this weekend and my Blog Candy where I am giving away two grab bags to one of my followers.  So next month we could have 2-5 winners.  If I reach 100 entries in any challenge I will always add another prize.

Don't forget to add your name to Mr Linky and leave a comment below.

Not everyone celebrates Halloween, and some of us that do celebrate aren't aware of why we celebrate or what it is we're celebrating..ummm...do I know??? not even. I just like seeing all the costumes and giving candy to the little ghosts and goblins that come around knocking with their "trick or treat" message.  Believe it or not I can still remember the days when I got all dressed up or maybe that would be called "dressed down" so I could go and see how much candy I could get and then get home and compare my treasures with my brothers and sister.

Then I remember taking my boys and their friends in our truck and watching them go door to door yelling "trick or treat".  Things have certainly changed between my time and today.  I no longer hear of bobbing for apples, or the greasy pig race or hayriding through town.  What happened to the square dancing and the banjo's and things.  Now you have to pay to be scared, and you have to check the candy your kids get and there's a curfew to when and how long you can "trick or treat".  I tell you its is a world of difference these days...not that I'm that old or anything but I am old enough to know the difference in then and now.

Well today I created my first Halloween card of the year.  I was supposed to have created one for my challenge but life got in the way and it had to be placed aside until now.  I used a "Mo Manning" image which is so adorable and I think you will like the card.  So without to many more words here is the card, "Bat Kat".

DP: Authentique "Glowing"
CS: Recollections
Sentiment: Computered Generated
Spellbinders: Circle Die, Pecot Circle
EK Success: Pumpkin Border Punch

Copics:
Pumpkin: YR09, YR04, YR23
Cat: C2, C0, R20
Mask: V19, V17, V15

The leftover scraps (which were half sheets) from the paper pad I decorated the inside.

On the right side I used the pumpkin punch border for the bottom of the card and a strip of leftover scraps. Then added a white mat for a personal message.

On the left I just covered the panel with leftover scraps from the paper used on the front.

It is just my nature to use everything to the best of my ability and this time it worked out perfect I think.

Purple Scraps

Hi everyone, this is Lesia "Mema" coming to you full of joy and energy.  This weekend was as perfect as perfect could ever be as far as temperature goes.  The cooler weather came just before my AC Unit decided to act funky with me.  A new compressor, what?  That was me when the AC guy took a look at it...well I'm going for a second opinion and a great big prayer.  Anyway I think perhaps it just needed a nap so I turned it off, opened my doors and turned on all my ceiling fans for a while to stay cool and it the fresh air with the fans circulating everything worked pretty good for me, for a few hours at least.

I did a few chores and then off to my craftroom I went praying the whole time because my craftroom is usually very hot with the extra lighting I use in there.  Trust me when I tell you that my craftroom is brighter than an operating room at the hospital so heat is generated in multiple kilowatts.  I knew that I was going to need more than just a ceiling fan for this room so before I moved in the old stand-by fan, I decided to try the AC one more time and Whoopee the sucker turned on full blast.  Prayers work regardless to how big or small..."don't tell God how big your problems are, tell your problems how big your God is"...think I'll use that phrase on a card one day.

Another cool thing, well in some ways its cool..my son had his 41st birthday and I was the first one to wish him Happy Birthday.  I woke him up at 12:05 a.m. so I could be first.  The only thing about my son being 41, is that it reminds me of just how old I am and my only satisfaction in knowing how old I am getting is knowing that his father is older than me (smiles).

Anyway I tried to re-organize my paper and in doing so, I found a paper pack by K&Company that I had not seen in ages (okay I have a lot of paper) and decided to use it for my next card.  Later while surfing and visiting my favorite sites I visited the sketch team challenges over at the Outlawz  and thought I'd give it a try.  The sketch was very interesting and the DT presented very unique perspectives from which to pull ideas.  Well here is my take with my very own little twist, so you decide...did I keep in line with the sketch?

Card Supplies:
DP: K&Company "PoppySeed"
Spellbinders: Scalloped and Standard Ovals; Fancy Tag and Banners
Ribbon: StampinUp
Ink Media: Copics

Here is the sketch that we had to follow.  I thought it was pretty cool.  I am entering my card in the Wednesday Sketch Challenge at the Outlawz.

After finishing this card I had quite a bit of leftover paper so I decided to make a card I remembered seeing that was created by Jennie Williams, so I decided to try and case her idea from memory.

Using leftover paper allowed me to relax because there wasn't any pressure to get it right the first time.  If I messed up, it was only scrap paper which isn't the same as messing up perfectly good paper if you know what I mean (I have done that).

The card used Martha Stewart punch around the page and Marianne dies. While my card is nowhere close to being as perfect as Jennie's, I didn't feel to bad about the turn out.  I mean I had to add a little bit of me and make a few changes so it would feel right to me....so here you go.

Did you notice that its the same paper as the previous card.  This paper is double-sided so I made the card base using the solid side of the paper.  Doing this helped me decorate the inside and stay consistent with the colors.

I tried to use three different shades of purple (no particular reason) but I think I should have stayed on the blue side of purple and not introduce the pink side.

The punch around the page is "Deco Flowers" and a Marianne die is used on the inside.  I also used a Marianne corner die for the flourishes and added a Recollections flower in the center.  Next I punched out a circle to add my sentiment and as a last thought added a few pearls to finish the card (it didn't really need the pearls though).

Notice how using the double-sided paper decorated the inside for me...easy peasey decorating now.  Using the opposite side of the paper I punched around the edge and simply added it to the inside.

So y'all what do you think.  Thanks for stopping by and while you're here visit a spell, I'm always glad when visitors come by.

Double Embossing

Click Here to Enter the Blog Candy Giveaway

Does anyone else feel as if this year has flown by?  Just think there's only 109 days left before we will be celebrating Christmas...its just amazing how time flies and now I reflect. Last year around this time I found the blogging world and in October I had my very first challenge..wow! I've met people from England, Norway, Australia and Finland without leaving the comfort of my home or paying for some huge ticket or phone bill.  I gained a DNL and not one but two new grands. Whew...and the year isn't over so I'll wait and see what other blessings I will encounter. For now I want to share a card with you, but its nothing grand. I discovered this rather neat techniques and wanted to share it. I think I found it on Splitcoaststampers, which is where I find a lot of really cool techniques. Anyway this one is called double-embossing and I thought it was really cool. Hopefully you can see why it is called that. Here is the card and a close up of the double embossing.

As you can see this is a standard 5x7 with a couple of layers.  I used bazzil cardstock for my base and mat and the designer paper is MME.  I added a bit of ribbon from StampinUp and bling by Recollections. Then I decided to  add a border using one of Martha Stewart's border punch.

The blue paper is embossed with the dots and then embossed with the leaves and bird. For this technique you will need to choose two embossing folders.  One should be a background folder (full coverage) and the other folder will need to be less busy because this will be your focal point.

You can see the two different images on the close up.  A quick summary of the technique goes like this.  You start by running your focal folder through your Sizzix and heat emboss the image using clear embossing powder. Once you've completed that you select your background folder and run your image back through your Sizzix (make sure you get the right side up).  You'll end up with a double embossed focal point.  Pretty cool eh? I thought it was pretty neat so I tried it myself.  I'll add the complete step-by-step tutorial to my tutorial list located under the tutorial tab along with a video within the next couple of days.

This next card I did just because I needed to try out my new die I got from Happy Scrappy, who had a going out of business sale.  She had all her merchandise prices at 45% below her original price.  Deals like this are hard to pass up, so I had to add a few to my inventory (whether I needed it or not).  I'm a mini-hoarder you see and at the moment I am really not worried that I might grow into a full hoarder (he he).

The die I used for this card has all these intricate flourishes with the word "Peace" spelled out in the center.  You would think this was difficult to cut but using the metal adapter made it a cinch.  I absolutely love that cuddle-hug metal adapter.  If you don't have one (they are hard to find) I highly recommend you pick one up. Your most intricate dies will cut cleanly the first time.

Well thats all for tonight.  Don't forget I have a monthly challenge in effect as well as a bit of blog candy that I am giving away.  If you are a follower remember to sign in so you can be counted for a chance at my top follower prize which I will be announcing in the near future.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will come back again often.  As always...
